WE'RE BUILDING STRONG AND BRIGHT FUTURES

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

With the start of the new school year all Paris and Bourbon County 2nd graders had a new class to attend.  The Paris-Bourbon County Y offered free swim lessons to over 275 2nd graders during the school day, while teaching children water safety.

The Y chose to target 2nd graders because they are able to retain the knowledge needed to learn to swim.  “Recent studies have shown that 7 year olds that can’t swim are the most likely age group to drown,” according  to Cathy Boone, Executive Director/CEO, Paris-Bourbon County YMCA.

The Paris-Bourbon Y offers a variety of water safety programs including Lifeguard Certification and Private and Group Swim Lessons (Ages 6 months- Adult).

“At the Paris-Bourbon Y we are committed to providing as many opportunities as possible for everyone to learn basic swimming skills and water safety practices,” said Keith Lenox, Aquatics Director, Paris-Bourbon County YMCA.

This program is made possible through donations to the Y’s Annual Giving Campaign.
