WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE Y

PICKLEBALL PROVING POPULAR AT YMCA

This fall the Paris-Bourbon County YMCA introduced a sport that might be new to many, but which takes its roots from very familiar games like tennis, ping-pong and badminton. Pickleball is a sport played inside or outside on a badminton-sized court with special pickleball paddles, made of wood. The ball is similar to a whiffle ball, but slightly smaller. The lower net and ball allow the game to be accessible to people of all ages and abilities, while still allowing more competitive players to test their athletic ability.

The Y is offering pickleball clinics twice a week on Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. in the gymnasium. The clinics, which have been growing in popularity, are free to YMCA members.

2014 GOODGIVING GUIDE CHALLENGE

Starting November 3, the Y will be participating in the 2014 GoodGiving Guide Challenge. The Challenge is a partnership between Bluegrass Community Foundation and Smiley Pete Publishing. We are excited to show everyone what great supporters our Y has!

Last year, the Challenge raised over 1.67 MILLION for 107 local nonprofits. This year, 155 nonprofits are participating, and we’re expecting great things! To help us compete for cash and prizes, we are asking friends and supporters like you to donate a gift to the Paris-Bourbon County YMCA via BGgives.org starting November 3-December 12th 2014.
